Otto Nückel, Cityscape in Winter in the foreground on the right, market stalls, with a car in front of them (probably a Hanomag 1.3-litre), to the left, a stream with children ice-skating; on the left, a church tower visible from the townscape; to the right, on a hill, two churches and a factory behind them; the town of Freising, with its Kirchberg and the Weihenstephan brewery, may have served as the model for the picture, a simple townscape in the New Objectivity style, oil on hardboard, probably from the 1940s, signed lower right, in need of light cleaning, signs of age, frame dented, inner dimensions 66 x 90 cm. Artist information: German painter, graphic artist and caricaturist (1888 Cologne - 1955 Cologne); initially studied medicine in Freiburg im Breisgau; moved to Munich and devoted himself intensively to drawing and painting; a representative of New Objectivity in Munich; member of the Munich New Secession and the artists’ group ‘7 Munich Painters’; one of the first artists to work with lead-line engraving; worked as a caricaturist for *Simplicissimus*, *Der Simpl*, *Die Jugend* and *Ping-Pong*; source: Wikipedia and Thieme-Becker.
