Gudrun Brüne, "Dialogue with the Princess" A masked boy in Venetian costume and, facing him, a decorated doll wearing a crown and reaching out her hand to him - a typical subject for this well-known painter; oil on hardboard, monogrammed and dated ‘GB (19)94", inscribed on the reverse as "Brüne/Dialogue with the Princess", minor imperfections, framed, inner dimensions approx. 83 x 125 cm. Artist’s biography: German painter, draughtswoman and graphic artist (1941, Berlin - 2025, Neuruppin), the family moved to Leipzig in 1947; 1956-59: apprenticeship as a bookbinder; attended the evening classes at the Academy of Visual Arts (HGB) in Leipzig; from 1961: studied at the HGB under Bernhard Heisig and Heinz Wagner; 1966-77: worked as a freelancer and in the studio of her future husband, Bernhard Heisig, 1979-99: Lecturer at the Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design in Halle; 1987: Awarded the GDR Art Prize; 1988: Participated in the Venice Biennale; 1991: Married Bernhard Heisig; 1999: Moved to Strohdehne; Source: Eisold, ‘Artists in the GDR’, the artist’s website and Wikipedia.
