Artist information: Danish painter (1848 in Bogense - 1934 in Bournemouth), trained under his brother Johann Peter Holst in Copenhagen; lived in the USA from 1868 to 1873; from 1873 onwards, divided his time between England and Denmark; took over Herman Gustave Herkomer’s studio in London in 1888, received commissions from the Danish and English royal families as well as the Russian imperial family, was one of the most popular marine painters in England, and painted mainly ships and coastal regions.
