Maurice Utrillo, Street Scene published in “Le Village inspiré. Chronique de la Bohème de Montmartre”, colour lithograph based on a mixed-media work, mid-20th century, signed in print “Maurice Utrillo W.”, label on the back of the frame reading “Galerie Valentin Stuttgart-Königsbau”, slight signs of wear, framed under a passe-partout and behind glass, passe-partout cut-out approx. 30 x 23.5 cm. Artist information: born Maurice Valadon, French painter and graphic artist (1883, Paris - 1955, Dax), son and pupil of the Parisian painter Suzanne Valadon; adopted in 1891 by the Spanish writer and painter Miguel Utrillo; from c. 1900, largely self-taught in painting; active in the Parisian artists’ quarter of Montmartre; exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants from 1912 and later at the Salon d’Automne; his work gained increasing recognition from 1920, awarded the Cross of the French Legion of Honour in 1929; worked in Le Vésinet from 1936 onwards; sources: Thieme-Becker, Vollmer, Bénézit and Wikipedia.
