1173 - Dragon helmet from the Second Empire. Polished steel shell. Turban retaining its fur, with some missing hair. Short visor and neck guard edged with a brass band, both lined with leather showing signs of wear. Crest with two fins adorned with godrons, water leaves, and garlands. Mask embossed with a flaming pomegranate, surmounted by a Medusa head. Cover plate embossed with a relief mat pattern, beneath which lies a black horsehair mane. Features a brass aigrette. 1845-model leather chin strap, featuring round brass rings and secured by screws passing through the rosettes. Plume missing. Leather cap present, with numerous signs of wear and missing sections. Serial number 75 41 inscribed on the back, on the rim, and on the crown. Note some wear and patina on the piece. Condition II+. Polished steel skull. Fur-covered band retaining its fur, with some hair loss. Short peak and neck guard edged with brass trim, both leather-lined and showing damage. Crest with two side wings decorated with fluting, water leaf motifs, and garlands. Front plate embossed with a flaming grenade surmounted by a Medusa head. Cover plate embossed with a raised braid motif, beneath which hangs a black horsehair mane. Brass plume holder. Model 1845 leather chinstrap with round brass rings, secured by screws through the rosettes. Plume missing. Leather lining present, with extensive wear and losses. Marked 75 41 on the rear rim and skull. Some wear and patina on the piece. Condition II+.
