A South German dusägge (tessak) with a Passau blade, circa 1580 A sturdy, slightly curved back blade with a double-edged tip. A double, narrow fuller on both sides beneath the back. On the quart side, a finely toothed Passau wolf mark with remnants of copper inlays, as well as an undeciphered shield-shaped mark. Next to it, the master’s monogram “MW” is stamped; in the fuller, a double “S” is stamped between small cross marks. Typical, blackened basket-hilt with a widely flared, S-shaped guard. Finger guard and thumb ring on the quart side; clasp hilt with a large closed plate on the terz side. Well-replaced, leather-covered tang, with minimal wormholes. Rectangular pagoda pommel with a flat, stepped riveted pommel cap. Length 105.5 cm. Condition: II -
