Late Gothic halberd, Southern Germany, circa 1490/1500 Curved blade with a long, slightly reinforced tip. A lancet-shaped openwork design and several small openwork dots, some in trefoil shapes. Extensive embossed decoration on one side. Angular ferrule with a square embossing mandrel on the reverse. Two sturdy, long shaft feathers with twisted ends; an old red collection number on the left side. Surface is grainy. Restored, octagonal ash wood shaft with an additional collection number “H.44.” stamped on a brass plaque between the shaft springs. Length 203.5 cm. A rare, early type of helmet-mounted halberd, attested by numerous pictorial sources from the late 15th century. Only a few examples of this type have survived worldwide. Rare! Condition: II–III
