Six ceramic pieces, Etruscan and Roman, 11th century B.C. – 2nd century A.D. 1) Late Bronze Age to Early Iron Age vessel stand (Holmos). 11th–10th centuries B.C. Proto-Villanova culture. Hand-formed, double-conical stand. Smooth cone at the top; at the bottom, four metopes bordered by horizontal ridges and four vertical “columns.” Each metope has five holes: four in the corners and one in the center. Dark clay with red spots along the upper rim. A chip on the upper rim. Diameter 11 cm. Height 9 cm. 2) Small, hand-formed jug. Proto-Villanova culture. 11th–10th centuries BCE. Sienna-brown to gray clay. Flat base, slightly domed wall, slightly flared, beaded rim at the top. Four knobs below the rim. Height 7 cm. Diameter 6.5 cm. 3) Bottle designed to be worn around the neck (“field bottle”). Late 10th–9th centuries BCE. Early Villanova culture. Dark gray clay with red flecks. Circular in plan view with a 1.5 cm wide groove along the rim. The sides are bulging. At the top, a short, funnel-shaped neck. In the ridges on either side of the rim groove, four perforations each, through which a strap—threaded through the groove—could be fastened. The vessel could thus be worn around the neck with a long carrying strap, much like a canteen. Small chip on one side of the rim. Otherwise intact. Height 12.5 cm. 4) Votive offering depicting male genitalia with scrotum, penis, and pubic region. Greek or Etruscan. 3rd century B.C. Intact. A wire for hanging has been modernly attached to the back with plaster. Height 11.5 cm. 5) Votive offering depicting a veiled goddess seated on a throne. Etruscan, late 5th century BCE. Feet and base broken off. A cavity has been modernly cast in plaster at the bottom to allow the figure to be mounted on a wooden peg attached to a pedestal. This pedestal is no longer present. Preserved height 13.5 cm. 6) Roman oil lamp with a bust on the mirror and a manufacturer’s mark on the base (MNOVIVSI). Loeschke Type VIII. 1st–2nd centuries CE. The image on the mirror was broken off and has been completely reattached with adhesive. Length: 11 cm. CULTURAL HERITAGE! Provenance: Private collection in Upper Austria (estate), acquired by the father in the 1980s on the Austrian and southern German art market. Condition: II
