A Roman bronze handle attachment for a jug, 2nd–3rd century A handle curving outward, ending at the top in a sickle-shaped clamp, above which a stylized lion’s head is positioned in the center. The ends are shaped like highly stylized animal heads. The clamp is attached by two rivets to remnants of the metal rim of the vessel to which it once belonged. At the lower end, the handle transitions into a loop in the shape of a stylized satyr’s head with horns, pointed ears, eyes, and a beard; a rivet head between the eyes could be interpreted as a snub nose. Dark green patina, with minor traces of corrosion in places. Height 15 cm. CULTURAL HERITAGE! Provenance: Private collection in southern Germany, acquired at the beginning of the millennium from the collector’s father, who passed away in 2013. Condition: II -
