Hamann) entirely cold-stamped on the boards representing a seraglio scene in a large central oval and monkeys playing at the four corners, smooth spine, gilt title throughout, gilt head, cover and spine preserved (René Kieffer). Minor rubbing to spine ends. Edition illustrated with numerous color compositions by Joe Hamman, including the cover, and numerous woodcut and stenciled vignettes, animal-style culs-de-lampe, bandeaux and lettrines. In a humorous tone, the brightly colored illustrations feature scenes of orientalist characters, wild and imaginary animals in sometimes deadly combat, and scenes of everyday life.
