VACQUERIE (Auguste). Since. Paris, Calmann Lévy, 1894. In-4, red half-maroquin with corner pieces, spine with five raised bands, gilt title, date at the bottom, gilt fillet; cover and spine preserved (contemporary binding). Caps and corners worn. Some scuffing. An interesting copy from the library of Georges Hugo, containing: - a signed autograph by Auguste Vacquerie to Georges Hugo, - a business card from the Auguste Vacquerie family - 4 autograph letters (4 pp., in-8), including 1 accompanied by an engraved portrait, 2 addressed to his publisher (1 in Chenay, undated, 1 other dated December 31, 1884) - a small photographic portrait of A. Vacquerie (F. Potin Collection). A precious copy belonging to Georges Hugo, Victor Hugo’s grandson, enriched with an autographed dedication by the author and several autograph documents. Auguste Vacquerie (1819–1895) was one of Victor Hugo’s closest and most loyal companions. Their friendship, which began in 1836, was further strengthened by family ties when Charles Vacquerie, Auguste’s brother, married Léopoldine Hugo in 1843, a few months before their tragic drowning at Villequier. A companion to the poet in exile, a collaborator on his journalistic ventures, and—along with Paul Meurice—an executor of his will
