256 - China, Qing Dynasty, Three silk garments. ca. 1880–1910. 1) Women’s sleeveless robe (gualan), in black silk decorated with an all-over floral medallion pattern in gold thread. Border—from the collar to the armholes, and along the hem and side slits—in black satin embroidered with floral motifs in blue and white silk threads and with applied trimmings. Pale pink silk lining. Dimensions: length 143 cm (from collar to hem), width 71 cm (front chest). 2) Xiapei, a beautiful black silk stole with elaborate embroidery in colored silk thread: at the bottom, a five-clawed dragon mirrored on each of the two elongated panels running along the body of the garment; refined decoration featuring traditional symbols of good fortune. Border on a light blue background with gold decorations and a silk fringe with multicolored tassels. A typical ceremonial women’s vest or overcoat. Although it may appear to be a stole at first glance, it is actually a garment with elongated panels that fall along the body and end in fringes. Lined in black satin with side laces for closure. Dimensions: length 190 cm (including fringe), width 39 cm (widest part). 3) Apple-green silk vest embroidered with “fushou” motifs, with blue and light blue edges and trimmed with cobalt-colored ribbon. Garment with likely modern decoration. (3) ITEM 1: Slight signs of wear. ITEM 2: Some tears due to wear on the front and along the border. ITEM 3: Garment from a more recent period in good condition.
