From *Mundus Subterraneus*, organized into XII books, which describes the divine craftsmanship of the subterranean world and the marvelous distribution of nature’s workshops therein [...] , first published in Amsterdam in 1665, with subsequent expanded editions in 1668 and 1678. Map of South America completely devoid of political details and showing only a few regional names; instead, the major rivers, lakes, mountains, and volcanoes are indicated. The mythical Lake Parime is erroneously shown here as connected to Lake Titicaca (Parime lacus, alias Titicacca). Paraguay is strangely depicted south of the Río de la Plata, while a huge crater lake, located closer to Lake Titicaca, lies just north of the Tropic of Capricorn. The Andes are depicted as a chain of active volcanoes. (1) Sheet with three margins as originally printed, a gap at the right-hand edge. Slight signs of wear and traces of binding on the left.
