214 - Frederick de Wit, Composite Atlas with Thirty Maps. Amsterdam: published by Fredericum de Wit, 1682. Folio (533x350 mm). Half-parchment binding, spine with three raised bands, covers in contemporary cardboard. Composite atlas (Atlas. Tot Amsterdam By Frederick de Wit in de Calverstraet bij den Dam inde Witte Paskaert) consisting of 30 maps, including the *Nova Orbis Tabula*, the four continents with the Americas and California depicted as an island, the European states including Italy, the Kingdom of Naples, the Venetian dominions, and the northern kingdoms (Sweden, Norway, and Denmark), the Holy Land (formerly Palestine), the great Eastern empires (China, Japan, Persia, and Arabia), the Greek archipelago, and the large map of the Peloponnese (hodie Moreae) with 14 views of the major cities; this map is larger in size and has its right side folded inward. A more compact atlas without descriptive text, making high-quality cartography more accessible and less expensive. (1) The first five maps have some minor, non-intrusive gaps at the edges and paper reinforcements on the reverse. The map of Italy, from the edition by Nicolaus Visscher, has defects (missing sections, stains, tears, etc.) and has been mounted on a backing. Other maps have paper reinforcements on the reverse. Some discoloration.
