33 - Jean-Baptiste Marc Bourgery Nicolas Henri Jacob, Eight Large Anatomical Plates. Brussels: Meline, Cans et Cie; Comptoir des Éditeurs, 1836 [1854 and later]. Color lithograph. 890/915 × 560/595 mm. Eight large anatomical plates from the atlas *Anatomie élémentaire en vingt planches, representant chacune un sujet dans son entier à la proportion de demi-nature*... comprising a title page and 20 lithographed plates, most of which are hand-colored. The first edition of this collection of anatomical illustrations—in atlas format, as the title suggests—designed to be hung on the walls of dissection rooms, appeared in both Paris and Brussels in 1836. The impressive plates of the atlas reproduce the illustrations from Bourgery and Jacob’s *Traité complet d’anatomie* on a much larger scale than the originals. Some plates were lithographed in Paris, others in Brussels. Plates I and II are devoted to osteology and syndesmology; plates III–VIII to myology and aponeurology; plates IX–XIV to angiology; plates XV–XVII to neurology; plates XVIII–XIX to the digestive system; and plate XX to the reproductive organs. The plates were originally sold separately; the uncolored versions cost 6 francs, and the colored ones 12 francs. (8) Some defects (traces of moisture stains, burnishing, and a few cracks). Signs of wear.
