Attributed to Jan SWART van GRONINGEN (1500–Antwerp 1560) The Finding of Moses Pen, India ink, and brown wash over black pencil lines. (Duplexed drawing; losses in the lower right; sun-faded; stains and small holes). 19.4 x 23.2 cm Bibliography: Netherlandish Drawings of the Fifteenth and Sixteenth Century in the Rijksmuseum, Text, pp. 161 and 162, Plates, nos. 439 and 443, pp. 167. Provenance: Anonymous sale, Sotheby’s, New York, January 31, 2018, lot 232. This may be a drawing for a stained-glass window. The style is reminiscent of Swart: the fine line, the rendering of the trees and faces, and the very long fingers.
