Wine notes: "Of all the old Charles Noëllat wines that I have tasted (some dishonestly sporting a Leroy label after Madame Bize purchased this old estate and its stocks as the genesis of her Domaine Leroy), this has been the best. This particular magnum was not part of the re-release of this wine that occurred under Madame Bize (I have had quite good bottles of the ’64 RSV as well that were let go from the cellars at the time her purchase of the domaine), but had been bought years before. The bouquet in magnum is lovely, offering up a complex and impressive bouquet of raspberry, coffee, herb tones, duck, cloves, sous bois, minerals and cedar. On the palate the wine is medium-full, with good depth of fruit, lovely resolution, and good length on the complex finish. This is clearly old fashioned wine making, and shows just a tad too much chapitalized sweetness, but the wine does have good grip. It is not a wine that will impress with great purity, but with its silky fruit and solid expression of terroir. "(90pts JG) Provenance: The P.V.S.R. Collection: Fine Wines from a Geneva Cellar. A discerning Geneva collector with an independent eye, P.V.S.R. has never been content simply to assemble the finest Burgundy and Bordeaux, though he holds them in abundance. His curiosity has always led him further, toward the oldest Madeiras, some of the most ancient Jura wines in existence, and the rarest California bottles of the 1960s. Now he shares two hundred ninety-two lots with us. Bordeaux sets a regal tone with the 1961 vintage, including three bottles of Ausone, six of Haut-Brion, and five of Lafite. Burgundy is the heart of the offering, with more than two hundred lots, led by Roumier with twenty-nine lots reaching back to three bottles of 1970 Bonnes-Mares, alongside Domaine Bizot, Domaine Trapet, and six magnums of 1999 Prieuré-Roch Chambertin Clos de Bèze. Champagne pours three bottles of 1961 Dom Pérignon, and the finale belongs to Madeira, with four lots of 1862 D. Bolger Malvasia and Terrantez. All bottles stored in pristine conditions at Au Bonheur du Vin, Acker’s preferred and recommended professional storage in Geneva.
