Felix M. Furtwängler - Thomas Bernhard. Never Coming to Terms with Anything. Berlin, Privat Presse 2007. With 52 aquatint etchings by Felix M. Furtwängler. Original half-leather binding with blind embossing and color-printed endpapers. Includes the supplementary sheet in the original slipcase. (Sabine Kiesel, Schnaggenberg). Call time: approx. 1:19 p.m. (schedule subject to change) Third collector’s edition. — One of 24 copies. - According to the colophon, 22 copies were published; according to the insert, 24, plus five artist’s proofs and specimen copies. - Numbered and dated in the colophon, with a handwritten dedication by the artist to the collector Viktor Günthert, Munich. - “[...] the pages are constructed like a collage from fragments of text and images, structured by horizontal and vertical bars and lines. [...] Furtwängler has now taken Thomas Bernhard’s 1970 Büchner Prize acceptance speech [...] as a large-format artist’s book—that is, he has transformed a piece of spoken literature into a graphic work of book art, turning a speech delivered before an audience into a fantastical force field. [...] The result is a dark, obscuring book, far removed from any form of classical bibliophilia.”—The artist himself describes the graphic technique as follows: “collage-reprint-etching process, line etching, and vernis mou” (Christian Scheffler, *Printing into Thinking*). - The insert contains Bernhard’s entire speech and a (somewhat erratic) colophon. Printing into Thinking 25 46.8 × 33.5 cm. [48, 8] pages.
