1987 SBARRO SPATULE Chassis No. 001 Former FIA passport, expired • Prototype designed by Franco Sbarro in Grandson • History linked to Gérard Pillon and Patrick Lesur • Chevrolet Small Block V8 engine • In the current collection since 2001 Built at the start of Franco Sbarro’s independent career at the ACA workshop in Grandson, the “Spatule” (Spatula) gets its nickname from its low, flattened front end. This prototype exemplifies its designer’s exploration of V8-powered race cars. Chassis 001 combines a multi-tubular frame with a Chevrolet Small Block V8 engine, a powerplant documented in its history since at least 1990. Its racing history includes an appearance by Gérard Pillon at the Casablanca Grand Prix, followed by Franco Sbarro’s participation in hillclimb races. The car then passed into the hands of Patrick Lesur, received an FIA passport in 1990, and notably competed in the Coupes de l’Âge d’Or in 1995. It joined the current collection in 2001, in its present condition. The car comes with its original FIA passport, which has since expired. Any return to the track will require an inspection of the car’s condition, its equipment, and the documents required for the selected event. This Sbarro is intended for a collector with an appreciation for independent designs and the history of prototypes, offering the opportunity to showcase a creation from the early days of the Grandson workshop. 1968 SBARRO ‘SPATULE’ Chassis No. 001 Historic FIA passport, now expired • Prototype designed by Franco Sbarro at Grandson • History associated with Gérard Pillon and Patrick Lesur • Chevrolet Small Block V8 • In the current collection since 2001 Built during the early years of Franco Sbarro’s independent ACA workshop in Grandson, the “Spatule” takes its nickname from its low, flat nose.
