Château Cheval Blanc, 1982. A.O.C. Saint-Émilion, Bordeaux, France. Grand Cru Classé A. Red wine. 2 bottles of 75 cl. 99/100 The Wine Advocate (William Kelley, 2022); 97/100 James Suckling; 96/100 Vinous; 96/100 Wine Spectator. Condition: Both bottles are filled to the neck (IN). Original garnet-red capsules, featuring the inscriptions and emblem of Château Cheval Blanc, are intact. The capsule on one of the bottles has slight marks on the top and a visible longitudinal mark. Original main labels, complete, clearly identifiable, and legible, with slight yellowing and subtle signs of wear. One of the labels has adhesive tape used to secure it. Both bottles retain small adhesive identification labels on the bottom of the glass. Overall good condition. It comes from a private collection cellar, maintained under optimal temperature and humidity conditions. The 1982 Château Cheval Blanc is one of Bordeaux’s great historic wines and one of the most iconic vintages from this prestigious Saint-Émilion estate. Its significance lies both in the exceptional reputation of the 1982 vintage and in the prestige of Cheval Blanc, one of the cornerstones of Bordeaux’s Right Bank. The 1982 vintage holds a special place in wine history: it helped transform the international perception of great Bordeaux wines and became a benchmark for collectors, critics, and enthusiasts. In this context, the 1982 Cheval Blanc stands out for its prestige, its aging potential, and its status as a collector’s wine. Château Cheval Blanc holds a unique position in Saint-Émilion due to the diversity of its soils—which combine gravel, clay, and sand—and the high proportion of Cabernet Franc in its blend with Merlot. The 1982 vintage ranks among Bordeaux’s great historic vintages and is a benchmark particularly prized by collectors. At Cheval Blanc, it stands out for its concentration, depth, and silky texture, along with remarkable aromatic complexity. As it ages, it may develop notes of ripe black fruits, truffle, tobacco, cedar, spices, and forest floor, with a balance of richness, freshness, and length characteristic of the estate’s finest vintages.
