Important Savonnerie-style tapestry Southeast Asia. Circa 1960–1965. Wool velour on a cotton backing. The centerpiece of this rug is a multicolored bird perched on a flowering branch, forming the central medallion against an ivory background. The medallion is set in the center of a field in various shades of blue, dotted with delicate flowers. Four spandrels with floral scrollwork frame the design. The main border, on a blue background, features a garland of polychrome flowers and leaves, embellished with ideograms. Three ivory counter-borders complete the design, one of which is crenellated.
