VIETNAM, 19th–20th centuries. Buddha seated on a lotus-shaped pedestal with finely carved petals. His eyes are almost closed, and his hands are clasped and resting on his thighs, conveying a sense of meditation. The round face, with long “ears of wisdom,” is framed by stylized curls ending in points from which the ushnisha emerges. The monastic robe and cloak flow in soft folds over the crossed legs. The base is movable, allowing the Buddha to be rotated. Wood lacquered in copper and red. Height: 100 cm, length: 52 cm, depth: 45 cm. Lack of lacquer, cracks, chips. As is. Provenance: a collection in Burgundy.
