Early Chinese export armorial porcelain plate, Kangxi ca. 1715. Decorated in verte Imari with the coat of arms of Somers of Dorset. Iron-red and blue leaves along the rim interrupted four times with the sun crest of Walker of Lancashire. Provenance: Heirloom & Howard Ltd., 25 August 1997; The Distinguished Collection of Leo & Doris Hodroff. Reference: Howard, "Chinese Armorial Porcelain," Vol. I, pg. 177. Lot Essay: Howard notes a curious error with the decoration of this plate. The crest along the rim is that of Dr. William Walker, Judge Advocate, who was probably a friend of Lord Somers. This plate likely comes from a service that was almost certainly copied from, though not made as the same time, as a service for Walker. Diameter: 8 3/4 in.
