982 - A very large and early Chinese export porcelain famille rose provinces charger, Kangxi ca. 1710-20. Enameled along the center with a large coat of arms surrounded by blooms above a banner inscribed "Luxenburgh" (an early spelling of Luxembourg). All within a trellis-patterned band along the well alternating with cartouches of crustaceans or fish. Painted in underglaze blue and and the rim reserved with larger cartouches with either a lady resting by water or flowering prunus branches. Illustrated in Howard, "Choice of the Private Trader," pg. 48-9, no. 17.
