JOSEP MARIA SUBIRACHS SITJAR (Barcelona, 1927–2014). “To Raffaello.” Lithograph, P.A. edition. Signed and inscribed by hand. Titled on the stone. Measurements: 36 x 52 cm; 38 x 54 cm (frame). Provenance: Estate of Ramon Martí Alsina and Ricard Martí Aguiló. Artistic and heritage collection originating in the legacy of Catalan painters Ramon Martí Alsina (1826–1894), a seminal figure of 19th-century Catalan Realism, and his son Ricard Martí Aguiló (1857–1935). Passed down and enriched across successive generations, the collection brings together works from the original holdings of both artists alongside acquisitions made by their descendants. Dedicated to preserving and recovering the family legacy, the descendants actively reacquired works by the painters as they entered the market, progressively expanding the collection to encompass paintings, sculptures, archaeological artifacts, and other items of artistic and historical significance. Trained in Barcelona and Paris, Subirachs has exhibited his work around the world and has received prestigious awards such as the Sculpture Prize at the Jazz Salon, the San Jorge Grand Prize from the Barcelona Provincial Council, and the “Julio González” Prize from the Barcelona Chamber of Art. In 1988, he was awarded the Medal of Merit in Fine Arts. In 1980, he was elected a member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Jorge. His work is represented at the Reina Sofía Center, the MACBA museums in Barcelona, Ibiza, Seville, and New York, the Fine Arts Museums of Bilbao, Birmingham, the Vatican, Taipei, and Nebraska; the Open-Air Museum on the Paseo de la Castellana in Madrid; the Musée du Petit Palais in Geneva; and the Millesgärden in Stockholm, among others.
