BOIELDIEU (Louis-Adrien) (1815–1883). French composer, son of the famous François-Adrien Boïeldieu (1775–1834), composer of *La Dame blanche*. Autograph letter signed “A. Boieldieu,” addressed to “My dear friend.” No place, October 9, [1866]. 1 page, in-8, in black ink, on mourning paper with a black border. With an autograph postscript. An interesting letter in which the composer expresses his disappointment at the abandonment of a collaborative theater project and mentions the revival of his comic opera *Le Chevalier Lubin*. Louis-Adrien Boïeldieu shares with his correspondent his deep sadness following a negative response to a joint artistic project: “I need not tell you how deeply saddened I am by your reply, and what adds to my grief is seeing that the discouragement you yourself are feeling leaves me little hope of your collaboration on anything else.” Despite this disappointment, the composer remains hopeful for a future collaboration: “Unforeseen circumstances often change plans, and I want to believe that an opportunity will arise, allowing us to work together for any theater.” ” He thanks his correspondent for reaching out to Denis and sends him his warm regards. In a postscript, he provides an update on his opera: “We rehearsed *Le Chevalier Lubin* today; it will be revived later this month. ” This mention provides a direct insight into Parisian theatrical life during the Second Empire, which is particularly interesting for the history of performances and revivals of opéra-comiques. *Le Chevalier Lubin*, a one-act opéra-comique with a libretto by Michel Carré and Victor Perrot, premiered at the Théâtre des Fantaisies-Parisiennes on May 25, 1866. The letter, likely dated October of the same year, thus refers to its revival a few months after its premiere. Louis-Adrien Boïeldieu, whose full name was Adrien-Louis-Victor Boïeldieu, was born in Paris on November 3, 1815. The son of composer François-Adrien Boïeldieu, he carried on the family’s musical tradition and composed numerous operas, including *Marguerite* (1838), *L’Aïeule* (1841), La Fille invisible (1854), and Le Chevalier Lubin (1866). Condition: Generally good condition. Mourning paper preserved with its black border; old creases, minor signs of handling, and slight wear on the corners. Handwriting and signature are clearly legible.
