Petrus Vertenten (1884–1946), crayon portrait of a Marind Anim man. In the upper left corner is the name “Agil.” In the lower left corner is the monogram “P.V.” On the reverse, a label reads: “As a pleasant memento of the Mission in Merauke, Nov. 17, 1932.” This portrait was likely given to G.W. Venhuis by the MSC mission in Merauke as a memento of his work there between 1930 and 1933. 28 x 17 cm, framed. Provenance: Collection of W.G. Venhuis and his wife, Mrs. A. Venhuis-Mulder. Acquired while they were stationed in Merauke from September 1930 to the end of 1933. W.G. Venhuis was a doctor conducting research on malaria. From late 1933, they were back in Bali.
