Size: 8 x 5 cm. Cardboard dimensions: 9 x 5.5 cm. The reverse of the cardboard bears a gold-embossed stamp from the “J. Alexandrovsky” studio (in Latin)—depicted are the children of Alexander II of Russia from his second marriage: Georgy, Boris, and Catherine. The photographer of this image, Ivan F. Aleksandrovsky, was the first to be awarded the title of “Photographer to His Imperial Highness” in 1859; however, he died in poverty in 1894 after making ill-fated investments in technical innovations. - The photograph shows printing marks in the upper center of the image. - Provenance: Formerly owned by Grand Duchess Maria Aleksandrovna (1853–1920), the younger daughter of Alexander II of Russia from his first marriage, Duchess of Edinburgh and Saxe-Coburg and Gotha; private collection in Switzerland, private collection in southern Germany.
