St. Petersburg, Levickij Studio, (circa 1870). Vintage. Albumen print, mounted on cardboard. Dimensions: 8.5 x 5.5 cm. Cardboard dimensions: 10.5 x 6.5 cm. The cardboard features a typographically embossed address of the “Levickij” studio on the lower left edge and an embossed signature on the right (both in Cyrillic). Contrary to the later annotation, the subject is likely the Tsarevich’s younger brother, Grand Duke Alexei Alexandrovich. - The card has some brown spots, with one brown spot extending to the edge of the photograph; otherwise, it is in fairly good condition. The reverse bears a later annotation in lead. - Provenance: Formerly owned by Grand Duchess Maria Aleksandrovna (1853–1920), the younger daughter of Alexander II of Russia from his first marriage, Duchess of Edinburgh and Saxe-Coburg and Gotha; private collection in Switzerland; private collection in southern Germany.
