Snow, Agathe. Lincoln Memorial. From the "In and Around a Mountain Top Hollywood—East—West Berlin Staircase—Men on Chairs Collection." Two car seats, wire mesh, honeycomb cardboard, Styrofoam partially painted white, plaster, ropes, and wood. 2010. Dimensions: approx. 180 x 100 x 120 cm. Artwork by Agathe Snow (b. 1976), commissioned by Deutsche Bank AG in cooperation with the Salomon R. Guggenheim Foundation for the Deutsche Guggenheim in Berlin. There, in early 2011, the Corsican artist installed a temporary, participatory “showroom” for a fictional company called “All Access World,” which humorously reproduced monuments, ancient wonders of the world, or famous structures (such as Stonehenge, the Eiffel Tower, the Colosseum, and the Hollywood Sign) as customizable consumer goods. Thus, this sculpture clearly alludes to the monumental statue of Lincoln that Daniel Chester French created in the early 1920s for the Lincoln Memorial in Washington. - Provenance: Removed from the collection of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York, in 2015; the museum had apparently acquired the work following the closure of the German Guggenheim in 2012; subsequently in the collection of the former director of Villa Massimo in Rome, Dr. Jürgen Schilling (1949–2026). - This lot is not suitable for shipping. The buyer must arrange for pickup or transport via a freight forwarder.
