Mangold, Josef. Untitled. (Still Life with a Pear and Grapes). Watercolor and lead white on chamois-colored heavy paper. Signed in black ink "Jos. Mangold" in a drawn cartouche at the lower edge of the sheet. Circa 1930. Sheet dimensions: 31 x 37 cm. In this trompe-l’oeil-like, masterfully executed still life, Josef Mangold (1884–1937)—one of the most important representatives of New Objectivity and magical realism in Germany—demonstrates his refined technique, honed by the Old Masters. - The sheet is mounted on the reverse side with a full-perimeter mat; the edges are cut somewhat irregularly; the area within the mat is slightly browned, with partial faint brown spots.
