Wegmayr, Sebastian (School). Collection of 17 floral watercolors, some inscribed (Franz Scheibelbrunner, Jos. Sack; one dated). Vienna, ca. 1820. Sheet size: approx. 21 x 15 cm to 34 x 25 cm. Newly mounted on acid-free paper. Wegmayr (February 7, 1776 – November 20, 1857) was an Austrian floral painter of the Biedermeier period. After studying from 1797 to 1805 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna under J.B. Drechsler, Wegmayr became a corrector at the Academy’s School of Design in 1807 and, in 1812, professor of floral painting, succeeding Drechsler, who had died in 1811. Wegmayr held this position until 1850; for his services, he was awarded the title of Imperial and Royal Academic Councilor. Beginning in 1830, Wegmayr participated in the Academy’s exhibitions. — Paper slightly wavy in places; colors generally fresh.
