Rejecting traditional couture techniques, he replaced needle and thread with rings, metal plates and unconventional materials, transforming the very concept of dressmaking. His futuristic creations rapidly became synonymous with the glamour and audacity of the swinging sixties. Françoise Hardy became one of his most celebrated muses, famously wearing his spectacular gold and diamond dress in 1968. Audrey Hepburn appeared in a Paco Rabanne creation in Two for the Road (1967), while Jane Fonda immortalised his futuristic aesthetic in the cult film Barbarella (1968).
