Avant-garde - Russia - Ptushko, Aleksandr L. *Mul'tiplikaciya fil'my* (Film Animation). Cover design featuring photomontages by Nataliya Pinus, with numerous illustrations. Moscow and Leningrad, State Publishing House for Fiction (GIHL), 1931. 62 pp., 1 leaf, 18 x 12.5 cm. Original two-color illustrated paperback (with some minor scuffs on the title page; a period owner’s inscription on the upper left margin of the title page; slight creases along the edges; slight wear). First edition. — Soviet director and animator A. Ptushko developed (together with the artist Yu. Merkulov) his own method for creating puppets for animated films. He combined the legacy of the unique early animations from Russian studios (especially those of A. Hrzhanovskij) with, among other things, the tradition of designs for revolutionary celebrations. His experiments and political caricatures, which straddled the line between animation and live-action film, also gained international recognition. One year after this edition was published, Ptushko directed his first animated film, *Master of Everyday Life*. The cover designer, Nataliya S. Pinus-Buharova—a graduate of Vhutemas who became a Constructivist in the years that followed—is known for her posters and montages. - Slightly discolored and with brown spots.
