Özendes, p. 136ff. — The Armenians Hovsep, Vicen, and Kevork Abdullah operated a photography studio in Istanbul and were appointed court photographers to the Ottoman Sultan Abd al-Hamid II in 1862; he commissioned them to create a comprehensive photographic documentation of his entire empire.
