Tooley 2, vol. 4, pp. 33ff. - LGK II, p. 663 - Gole 87/1.1 - Large-format, detailed map showing Bihar, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bangladesh, the Ganges Delta, and parts of Burma. The area south of the Himalayas is bounded by Bettiah, Rangamatty, Cospour, the coast of Arakan, Balasur, Varanasi (Benares), and Ghazipur. In the upper right corner is a large dedication to the directors of the East India Company, listing their names. The map, based on James Rennell’s original drawings, was published by Andrew Dury in 1776. Rennell (1742–1830) was a cartographer, geographer, and topographer for the East India Company. After Great Britain acquired the region of Bengal, the office of “Surveyor General” was created in 1767, and Rennell was appointed to it. In 1777, he returned to England to continue his geographical research there. - Center folds, with fold marks. - Short tears in the narrow paper margin have been restored; a small missing section (7 x 4 cm) in the area of the Bay of Bengal has been backed; a paper patch measuring approx. 19.5 x 9.5 cm added in the lower left corner in a cartographically unmarked part of the province of Orixa, small torn corners in the upper left margin repaired, slightly browned and stained. *
