The Psalter of David, the most eminent prophet, son of Jesse, a great psalmist and outstanding harpist: published solely by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, without any external assistance; And shrewdly divided into three quinquagenas by Diuum Aurelium Augustinum: carefully printed to be preferred to all other books of the prophets, to the praise of the almighty God. Epigram to the reader. Leipzig, Thanner, 1514. 59 leaves. 31 x 21.5 cm. 18th-century calfskin binding (spine and fore-edges restored). An edition of the Psalms divided into three groups, with a preface by Jerome. Jakob Thanner, a native of Würzburg, was active in Leipzig from 1498 until around 1530. - This copy contains numerous contemporary entries on folios 2 through 41, written between the lines, partly in the margins, and on 13 inserted note slips. Leaves 2 and 5 have been supplemented with a contemporary manuscript facsimile, including interlinear and marginal notes. The extensive commentaries are also by the same scribe. - Traces of moisture on the lower margin; a tear in the margin of the last leaf has been reinforced. - Provenance: Nils Esbjörnsson von Reuterholm (1676–1756), with an ex libris in red chalk and copperplate engraving on the inside cover, handwritten and dated 1750; on the endpaper, a 4-line handwritten note by the previous owner. *
