Provenance: Private Collection, UK. Note: The present work recalls Stevens' distinctive portraits of delicately-painted female sitters in elegant costumes, often depicted in profile, such as in his portrait of a young girl which sold at De Vuyst, Lokeren, on 22 October 2022, lot 77. He also regularly placed his figures in an idealised woodland setting, as in a work which sold at Sotheby's, New York, on 5 February 2026, lot 105, or another which sold at Horta, Brussels, on 8 June 2020, lot 518.
