FERMÍN VALLÉS (Pamplona, 1971). Untitled. Pastel on paper. Signed in the lower right corner. Measurements: 62 x 48 cm; 89 x 74 x 4 cm (frame). The work belongs to the most distinctly realistic phase of Fermín Vallés’s career; he has cultivated pastel as a medium for depicting the human figure. The foreground focuses all attention on the child’s face, rendered through meticulous drawing and intense chromatic variation. The deep blues of the clothing are hallmarks of contrast with the warm tones of the background, reinforcing the expressiveness of the gaze and the immediacy of the portrait. Fermín Vallés was born in Pamplona in 1971. Active in the Navarran art scene, in 2011 he served as president of the Gárdena Artists’ Group of Navarre and participated in its traveling exhibition *Hallmarks*. The following year, he took part in the group exhibition of Navarrese artists held at the Parliament of Navarre to mark the historical commemorations of 1212 and 1512.
