JOSÉ HUELLAS MIRABAL (Caracas, Venezuela). “Belle de Jour and Sola de Nuit, 1967,” 2026. Mixed media, acrylic on 300 g/m² canvas. Certificate of authenticity signed by the artist is included. Measurements: 70 x 70 cm. Inspired by Luis Buñuel’s film *Belle de Jour* (1967), this work reinterprets the conflict between desire, repression, and identity through a style reminiscent of Pop Art and symbolic abstraction. The composition features a female face divided into two halves that reflect the protagonist’s psychological duality. The left half, dominated by warm tones and presided over by the sun, symbolizes desire and the liberation of repressed impulses. In contrast, the right half, shrouded in dark tones and accompanied by the moon and stars, evokes the protagonist’s loneliness, guilt, and emotional limitations. A blue tear accentuates this inner tension. The balance between curved lines, geometric shapes, and chromatic hallmarks reinforces the composition’s expressiveness. The work is part of the artist’s “Perceptual Narrativism,” which transforms cinematic and literary references into symbolic images, exploring in this case the complexity of female identity and its contradictions. José Huellas Mirabal is a Spanish painter with Latin American roots. Trained at the School of Plastic Arts in Valencia, he has developed a practice centered on abstraction, combining acrylic painting, collage, oil painting, printmaking, and digital media. For more than fifteen years, he has been developing his own visual language based on color, geometry, and the symbolic construction of the image. He has participated in solo and group exhibitions in Alicante, Valencia, Barcelona, Caracas, Mexico City, Puebla, and São Paulo, and his works are part of private collections in Spain, France, Italy, Portugal, the Netherlands, and various Latin American countries.
