DON FINK (Duluth, Minnesota, 1923 – Barcelona, 2010). Untitled, 1979/1994. Mixed media and collage on paper. Signed and dated in colored pencil in the lower right corner. With slight water stains on the reverse. Measurements: 56.5 x 76 cm. This work by Don Fink reflects his connection to Abstract Expressionism and European Informalism, movements that shaped his artistic career. The composition combines gestural spontaneity with elaborate experimentation with materials, incorporating overlapping fragments of paper that lend relief and dynamism to the whole. The contrast between the transparency of the painted surfaces and the density of the attached elements creates a composition of great visual richness, in which spontaneous gesture and deliberate construction coexist. Don Fink was an American painter associated with lyrical abstraction and Abstract Expressionism. He trained at the Art Students League of New York and the Académie Julian in Paris, where he became part of the postwar art scene. In 1977, he settled in Barcelona, maintaining an intense international exhibition schedule. His work is represented in institutions such as the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York and the Centre Pompidou in Paris. In 1998, he was the subject of a retrospective exhibition at the Rayuela Gallery in Madrid.
