In “Western Love,” Ezequiel Martínez Llaser offers a thought-provoking reflection on the fragility of contemporary emotional bonds through a visually striking image. On a gilded surface—traditionally associated with the idea of value, the sacred, and the enduring—the artist places a stenciled female figure, at once strong and vulnerable, whose gaze is directed toward a floating heart. The tension between defense, desire, and emotional exposure thus articulates the conceptual core of the work. The combination of gold leaf, urban-inspired graphic elements, and textural relief created by a red mosaic reinforces the hybrid nature of the piece, which lies somewhere between object painting and small-scale sculpture. These hallmarks—the tactile richness of the background, the immediacy of the stencil, and the chromatic force of the red—intensify the symbolic interpretation of the work. Its format also allows for versatile presentation, whether freestanding or as a mural. Trained in Art and Philosophy at the University of Buenos Aires and the University of Paris VIII, Ezequiel Martínez Llaser develops a practice in which conceptual reflection and technical rigor advance in parallel. His work has been presented in various international contexts, including several editions of The MEAM Hall at the MEAM Museum in Barcelona, the Salon International du Portrait at the Bastille Design Center in Paris, and the 13th Florence Biennale. He has also exhibited at Galerie Sonia Monti in Paris, Galería Azur in Madrid, Galerie Art Course in Strasbourg, and Espace 6B in Paris, where his project “En otro poder” was named the winner.
