Based in Vienna, the artist explores the relationship between order, space, structure, and perception in her work. Her artistic practice begins with a seemingly rigorous geometric system that is, however, constantly destabilized by deliberate deviations, shifts, and disruptions. Stocker’s work situates itself within the art-historical traditions of geometric abstraction, Constructivism, the Bauhaus, Concrete Art, Hard-Edge painting, and Op Art. Key points of comparison and reference include Kazimir Malevich, Piet Mondrian, Theo van Doesburg, Josef Albers, Max Bill, Richard Paul Lohse, Friedrich Vordemberge-Gildewart, Victor Vasarely, Bridget Riley, Jesús Rafael Soto, and François Morellet. While these artists explored geometric order, serial systems, and optical perception in various ways, Stocker shifts the focus to three-dimensional space, making the instability of the system itself the subject of her work.
