Margarete Johanna Feigl-Zellner* (Gmunden 1900 - 1994 Mödling) In the forest watercolor/paper 53,7 x 30 cm signed Grete Feigl-Zellner SCHÄTZPREIS / ESTIMATE °€ 500 - 800 STARTPREIS / STARTING PRICE °€ 500 Johanna Margarete Feigl-Zellner was an Austrian painter and illustrator. Between 1922 and 1928, she was one of the first women to study at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna under Alois Delug, where she focused in particular on portraiture, caricature and illustration, her style oscillating between realism and satirical exaggeration. Even during this period, she was a contributor to the humorous weekly magazine *Die Muskete*, published in Vienna from 1905 to 1941, which placed her at the heart of Vienna’s satirical culture. At the same time, she studied philosophy, art history, prehistory and mathematics at the University of Vienna from 1920 to 1928. Margarete Feigl-Zellner became a secondary school teacher in 1927 and was the wife of the poet and journalist Hans Feigl. Her artistic milieu can be situated within the context of artists’ associations such as the Hagenbund and institutions such as the Academy of Fine Arts and the Vienna School of Applied Arts, particularly with regard to women in education. Stylistically and thematically, her work is related to Viennese portraiture of women and Salzkammergut Impressionism, whilst parallels and points of contact can also be drawn with artists such as Hilde Uray, Stephanie Hollenstein, Carry Hauser, Sergius Pauser, Oskar Laske, Helene Funke, Hermine David and Anton Trčka, as well as with the exhibition scene at the Vienna Künstlerhaus. PLEASE NOTE: The purchase price consists of the highest bid plus the buyer's premium, sales tax and, if applicable, the fee of artists resale rights and platform fee. In the case of normal taxation (marked ° at the estimate), a premium of 24% is added to the highest bid. The mandatory sales tax is added to the sum of the highest bid, the buyer's premium and platform fee. This amounts to 13% for paintings, drawings, graphic works and sculptures and 20% for photographs and all other items. The buyer's premium amounts to 28% in case of differential taxation. The sales tax is included in the differential taxation.
