Friedrich Aduatz* (Pula 1907 - 1994 Voitsberg) Diana with the dove of peace, 1936 oil/cardboard 34 x 42 cm verso label Diana mit Friedenstaube, Fritz Aduatz 1936 SCHÄTZPREIS / ESTIMATE € 1000 - 2000 STARTPREIS / STARTING PRICE € 1000 Friedrich (Fritz) Aduatz (1907 Pula – 1994 Voitsberg), an Austrian painter and graphic artist, grew up in Pula (Istria) as the son of an Austro-Hungarian police officer. The Mediterranean atmosphere, the works of the boat painters in the harbor, and an Italian school of painting influenced his style – a bright, intensely colored palette that runs through his entire oeuvre. At the age of 15, he moved to Graz, studied there, worked as a teacher, and took art lessons from Wilhelm Thöny at the Graz School of Applied Arts, where he made connections with the Nötsch Circle. From 1934 onwards, Aduatz was a member of the Graz Secession and the Vienna Hagenbund, in whose exhibitions he regularly participated – alongside artists such as Josef Hoffmann, Lois Pregartbauer, Oskar Kokoschka, Anton Mahringer, Emil Beischläger, Hans Bren, Georg Ehrlich, Otto Rudolf Schatz, Fritz Schwarz-Waldegg, Carry Hauser, Wilhelm Kaufmann, Anton Peschka, Maximilian Reinitz, Bettina Ehrlich, Eleonore Doelter, Marianne Fieglhuber-Gutscher, Josef Floch, Albert Paris Gütersloh, Carl Moll, Marie-Louise von Motesiczky, Albert Reuss, Herbert von Reyl-Hanisch, Frieda Salvendy, Konstantin Stoitzner, Viktor Tischler, My Ullmann, Franz Barwig the Elder, Leopold Blauensteiner, Carl Fahringer, Beni Ferenczy, Tibor Gergely, Gustav Gurschner, Felix Albrecht Harta, Karl Hauk, Wilhelm Hejda, Ludwig Heinrich Jungnickel, Rudolf Junk, and Max Kahrer. Eduard Kasparides, Oskar Laske, Georg Mayer-Marton, and Carl Zewy. In 1938, the Hagenbund was dissolved, Aduatz's art was denounced as "degenerate," and he was banned from exhibiting. Drafted in 1939, he lived with his wife in Voitsberg (Styria) and was stationed in Italy, Czechoslovakia, and Slovenia during the war. After 1945, he resumed his career, exhibiting at the Vienna Secession, in Graz, Italy, Germany, and South America, and later became honorary president of the Graz Secession. His work, tending from Expressionism to Abstraction, uses architecture as a grid for color contrasts, inspired by Venice and the Adriatic. PLEASE NOTE: The purchase price consists of the highest bid plus the buyer's premium, sales tax and, if applicable, the fee of artists resale rights and platform fee. In the case of normal taxation (marked ° at the estimate), a premium of 24% is added to the highest bid. The mandatory sales tax is added to the sum of the highest bid, the buyer's premium and platform fee. This amounts to 13% for paintings, drawings, graphic works and sculptures and 20% for photographs and all other items. The buyer's premium amounts to 28% in case of differential taxation. The sales tax is included in the differential taxation.
