Interned during the First World War, he discovered the light of southern France in 1921, which transformed his painting from Impressionism to Expressionism – influenced by Anton Faistauer, Ferdinand Andri, Karl Mediz, Egon Schiele, and Oskar Kokoschka. A member of the Société Nationale des Beaux Arts, he exhibited at the Salon d’Automne, at Durand-Ruel, and in the Toulon Museum; contacts with Josef Floch, Viktor Tischler, Georg Merkel, and Walter Bondy shaped his circle. From Dieulefît, he moved to La Valette-du-Var near Toulon. From 1951 onwards, he traveled to Ibiza, and later to Provence and Paris. His oil paintings, watercolors, still lifes, nudes, and landscapes capture the light of southern France.
