His remarkable body of work occupied the space between Symbolism and Expressionism while also being characterized by a profound spiritual mysticism. In Vienna, Stolz established significant connections within the art scene, influenced particularly by the painter Alexander Rothaug and the avant-garde artists of the Hagenbund. Erich Mallina played a pivotal role in his artistic and intellectual development, introducing him to a mystical-religious worldview and the teachings of the Theosophical Society. In the context of art history, Stolz’s work sits alongside the movements of Symbolism, Expressionism, New Objectivity, and Surrealism. Furthermore, his connections to Erich Mallina, Alexander Rothaug, Theosophy, and the Vienna Hagenbund are particularly noteworthy.
