Aloys Wach (Lambach 1892 - 1940 Braunau) Kneeling Nude electrographic pen/paper 32,1 x 25,4 cm signed Wach SCHÄTZPREIS / ESTIMATE € 400 - 600 STARTPREIS / STARTING PRICE € 400 Aloys Wach was a 20th-century Austrian painter originally from Czernowitz in Bukovina. From 1926 to 1931, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna under Ferdinand Andri and Karl Fahringer. His works from the interwar period are associated with Expressionism and show the influence of Richard Gerstl and Edvard Munch. In 1946, Wach co-founded the artist group "Der Kreis," and from 1958, he was a member of the Vienna Secession. From the 1940s onwards, Wach increasingly developed his visual language toward a form of representational abstraction. In addition to influences from Cubism and Surrealism—particularly through his association with Edgar Jené—his work was shaped by an engagement with Paul Cézanne. Portraits, landscapes, and still lifes form central themes of his oeuvre, with representational motifs increasingly transformed into simplified, dynamic forms. In his later work, Wach also explored Tachisme and the possibilities of free, gestural painting. His multifaceted body of work thus combines Expressionism, abstraction, and Surrealist tendencies while remaining closely linked to the Austrian post-war art scene. In 1979, the Austrian Gallery Belvedere dedicated an exhibition to him.
