DA-1A-145 titled in the catalogue raisonné The dressing room SCHÄTZPREIS / ESTIMATE € 100000 - 200000 STARTPREIS / STARTING PRICE € 100000 Alfons Walde was one of the most important representatives of Austrian interwar modernism. After attending school in Innsbruck, he studied at the Vienna University of Technology from 1910, where he came into contact with the Vienna Secession and artists such as Egon Schiele, Gustav Klimt, and Herbert Boeckl. During the First World War, he served as a lieutenant in the Imperial Rifles, returning in 1917 and once again turning to painting. In the 1920s, Walde developed his unmistakable visual language, in which rural life and the winter landscape of the Tyrolean mountains were transformed into clearly composed, intensely colored scenes. Works such as "Fair in Kitzbühel" and "Going to Church" demonstrate his combination of expressive flatness and stylized figuration. With the founding of the Alfons Walde art publishing house in 1923, he disseminated his paintings as postcards and art prints, thus gaining international recognition. In addition to painting, Walde was also active as an architect and realized several buildings in Kitzbühel. His art combines the expressiveness of Expressionism with the clarity of New Objectivity and shaped the image of Tyrol in the modern era. Until his death in 1958, he remained closely connected to his homeland and is considered one of the most distinctive interpreters of the Alpine landscape in the 20th century.
