Franz Jaschke (Vienna 1862 - 1910 Vienna) Violin virtuoso Duesberg, 1908 oil/canvas 124 x 96 cm signed F. Jaschke, dated 1908 exhibited at the 38th Exhibition of the Vienna Secession SCHÄTZPREIS / ESTIMATE € 4000 - 6000 STARTPREIS / STARTING PRICE € 4000 Franz Jaschke was an Austrian painter active during the turn of the century in Vienna. Born in Vienna on June 19, 1862, he initially studied at the School of Arts and Crafts before enrolling at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna in 1882, where he studied under August Eisenmenger and Josef Mathias Trenkwald. In 1901, Jaschke became a member of the Vienna Secession. His work is associated with the Viennese Jugendstil (Art Nouveau) and is characterized by a decorative color palette often brightened through pointillist techniques. He became particularly well known for his views of Viennese gardens and cityscapes; in addition, he created portraits of children and young girls, history paintings, and vedute (city views) of Vienna. His preferred motifs included Schönbrunn, the Danube Canal, and the Pilgram Bridge. Works such as Donaulände (or Erdberger Lände) from 1903—now in the Belvedere collection—combine precise observation of the Viennese cityscape with a luminous, modern painting style. Jaschke was also an accomplished draftsman; the Albertina, for instance, holds his 1898 watercolor Seated Nude Girl. Franz Jaschke died in Vienna on December 1, 1910. Within the context of Austrian art around 1900, his work occupies a distinctive position, bridging academic training, Secessionist modernism, and the painterly discovery of everyday life in contemporary Vienna. PLEASE NOTE: The purchase price consists of the highest bid plus the buyer's premium, sales tax and, if applicable, the fee of artists resale rights and platform fee. In the case of normal taxation (marked ° at the estimate), a premium of 24% is added to the highest bid. The mandatory sales tax is added to the sum of the highest bid, the buyer's premium and platform fee. This amounts to 13% for paintings, drawings, graphic works and sculptures and 20% for photographs and all other items. The buyer's premium amounts to 28% in case of differential taxation. The sales tax is included in the differential taxation.
